Relocate BOH Door and Ensure Perfect Finish

Brief

To relocate the Back Of House door, using the existing materials, and ensure a perfect finish for the decoration and flooring in the new location.

Action

Removing the existing door-set and oak slats feature, we set these aside for reuse. We also removed the existing perimeter panels at the left hand side of the door opening and refitted them tight up to the wall panels on the right-hand side.

Next, we studded out the old opening and lined with plasterboard, taping and jointing all seams with two coats of joint filler before rubbing down and decorating.

Cutting out a new opening in the wall, we refitted the door-set which had been set aside. We hung the door and made good before decorating the surrounding the wall. We also installed the oak feature slats above the door and perimeter panels.

The floor tiles were originally cut and laid up to the wall whereas now the tiles needed to pass under the door and finish neatly without a visible jin on the retail floor. So we uplifted the floor tiles at the new doorway and carried them through to the BOH area.

The Challenge

Due to trading during the day, the works had to be carried out overnight. Two of our multi-skilled shop-fitters carried out the works which were completed within one night as projected.

Results

Work was carried out without disruption for customers providing a new door in a more convenient location and a new wall where the old door had been. We provided seamless decoration and flooring, despite needing to lay longer tiles to pass under the door to create the desired finish.
