Charity Engagement – The Lunchbowl Network

Pulse is a family-run business. We specialise in the design, delivery and maintenance of engaging environments for some of the UK’s leading brands. Our values are at the heart of what we do and one of our key values is to give something back.

Why It Matters To Us

We’re convinced that places make a difference to people. So we believe that investment in places can change the lives of whole communities for the better.

And that’s why we’re proud to support the work of The Lunchbowl Network.

The Lunchbowl Network

The Lunchbowl Network was set up in 2006 in response to the conditions of orphaned and vulnerable children living in Kibera, Nairobi. Kibera is the largest urban slum in Africa and one of the biggest in the world. It is home to more than 250,000 people. Many of these are children who have lost one or both parents to HIV / AIDS.

Lunchbowl started by setting up a dinner programme for 450 orphaned and vulnerable children and since January 2015 they have provided education for up to 200 Kiberan children aged 3-8 years old at their Angel Kindergarten. The Kindergarten offers a foundational learning experience, where children receive breakfast plus two hot nutritious meals everyday.

This month we’re celebrating the opening of their first Primary School, in partnership with the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK).

Their Work

The Good Samaritan Primary School has capacity for 330 children aged from 4-13 years old. Their vision is to create a place of excellence in education where the development of the whole child is central.

The School opened in January 2019, after renovating 5 classrooms, with 150 children attending. They aim to continue with their renovation programme, to feed and educate 330 children aged 5-13 by the end of the year. This will run alongside their Angel Kindergarten which will continue to feed and educate 120 2-5 year olds.

Pulse has given towards their building programme and our funds will be used to build an outdoor lunch and learning area. This will create a superb opportunity for the children to expand their learning whilst improving their health in their beautiful grounds.

What Can You Give?

We’re excited about the difference this School will make to the children of Kibera and the far-reaching potential for change in that community.School Grounds
